Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 Boys volleyball - Section 1 playoffs Suffern sweeps East Ramapo, advances to third consecutive sectional final Clarkstown South takes Clarkstown South in four games, will play Suffern SUFFERN -- Rich Ibsen registered 10 kills and Oliver Svoboda added eight kills yesterday as top-seeded Suffern swept visiting and fourth-seeded East Ramapo, 25-11, 25-6, 25-9 in a Section 1 boys' volleyball semifinal. Suffern, the two-time defending Section 1 champions, advance to the final Friday. Suffern will host Clarkstown South, which beat Clarkstown North in four games, for the title. Luke Watson collected five blocks for the Mounties. Omari Grampus led East Ramapo with five digs and two kills. Eddie Oswald rang up a match-high 34 kills and had 11 digs and Eric Cayne added 15 kills and four digs as second-seeded Clarkstown South Boys defeated visiting and third-seeded Clarkstown North, 25-10, 25-21, 25-27, 25-18 in a Section 1 boys' volleyball semifinal. Chris Ferrara finished with 46 assists and four aces for the Vikings. Scotty Silverman led Clarkstown North with nine kills and nine assists and Chris Rossi had 24 digs. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 Boys volleyball Tomeo, Silverman lead Clarkstown North to victory Duo combines for 18 kills, Chaitan has 24 assists NEW CITY -- Paul Tomeo had 10 kills and Scott Silverman registered 12 digs, eight kills and four service aces yesterday as Clarkstown North defeated East Ramapo, 21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-23 in a boys’ volleyball match. Jeremy Chaitan had a match-leading 24 assists for the Rams (4-3), who will host Suffern tomorrow for Senior Night. Suffern beats Clarkstown South on Senior Night SUFFERN -- Oliver Sboboda had 18 kills and John Brennan added 10 kills yesterday as Suffern defeated visiting Clarkstown South, 25-10, 25-15, 25-18 in a Conference IV boys' volleyball match. Suffern honored its five seniors on Senior Night -- Jon Poli, Joe Cody, David Lopez, Brennan and Svoboda. Suffern coach Kim Cleary pointed out that the fivesome all started since day one of the program in 2008.

Maeve Parahus contributed 13 kills and Madison Kandoth had 15 digs and five kills. Kerri McFadden added six digs, four aces and four assists and Vicky Slowic had four blocks. Francesca Grix led Pearl River (6-5 overall, 3-2 in league) with eight kills, Annette Krysievicz had seven kills and Lisa O’Sullivan collected 25 assists. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010 Girls volleyball Flaherty leads Suffern to win over Pearl River PEARL RIVER -- Liz Flaherty had 13 kills and nine assists yesterday, leading Suffern to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-22 win over host Pearl River in a non-league girls’ volleyball match. Christa Baccas added 10 kills and also had five blocks. Rebecca Rourke led Suffern with 13 assists. Jennfier Tarangelo and Laura Cohen had eight and six digs, respectively. Francesca Grix led Pearl River (6-4) with seven kills, Lisa O’Sullivan had nine assists and Carly Moreno contributed six digs. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 Girls volleyball Baccas, Flaherty hit Suffern to win Tandem combines for 26 kills against Clarkstown South SUFFERN -- Christa Baccas had 14 kills and five blocks and Liz Flaherty added 12 kills and had 17 assists yesterday as Suffern defeated visiting Clarkstown South, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, 27-25 in an American League girls’ volleyball match. “Game four was back and forth at the end with Christa putting the ball down to take a 26-25 lead,” Suffern coach Sean Barnes noted. O'Sullivan assists Pearl River against Nyack Setter records 18 assists in four-set win UPPER NYACK -- Lisa O’Sullivan recorded 18 assists, three aces and two digs and Francesca Grix had eight kills in Pearl River’s 25-18, 25-15, 26-24, 25-12 win over host Nyack in a National League girls’ volleyball match. Sarah O’Malley had five kills and five digs and Carly Moreno had nine digs. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010 Girls volleyball Paul powers Tappan Zee to sweep of Ramapo Mingione, Ricci combine for nine kills SPRING VALLEY -- Devona Paul had seven kills and four aces and Dana Mingione added five assists, four kills and three digs yesterday as visiting Tappan Zee beat Ramapo, 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 in a girls’ volleyball match. Angela Ricci added five kills and two aces for the Dutchies. Bridgewater's nine kills highlight Nyack loss to Edgemont SCARSDALE -- Dalia Bridgewater had nine kills and five blocks yesterday, but it was Edgemont who defeated visiting Nyack, 25-13, 25-18, 27-25 in a non-league girls’ volleyball match. Sophie Owens contributed 14 assists, three aces, two digs and two kills and Tashina Bradshaw added four kills and two digs for Nyack (1-8). “Dalia has been playing phenomenally well the past few matches,” Nyack coach Kelly Hasslinger said. “Dalia has emerged as a very powerful hitter and consistent blocker.” __________________________________________ Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 Girls volleyball Mayfield, Lenihan lead Nanuet to five-set win over Pearl River Duo combines for 38 kills and 25 digs PEARL RIVER -- Amber Mayfield had 24 kills and Caitlin Lenihan added 14 kills yesterday as Nanuet outlasted host Pearl River, 20-25, 30-28, 25-15, 20-25, 25-13 in a National League girls’ volleyball match. Megan Straut collected 26 assists and Lisa Endanattu added 25 assists for the Golden Knights (5-3 overall, 2-0 in league). Nanuet’s defense was excellent, as it rang up 76 digs. Mayfield and Straut had 16 apiece, Endanattu contributed 13 and Shannon Davin and Lenihan each had nine. Victoria Grix led Pearl River (5-3 overall, 2-1 in league) with 10 kills and also added 19 digs. Pearl River also turned in a fine defensive effort with 75 figs. Carly Moreno finished with a match-best 22 and Sarah O’Malley added 11. Lisa O’Sullivan handed out 21 assists and had nine digs. Suffern sweeps East Ramapo: Liz Flaherty had eight kills and five assists yesterday as Suffern defeated East Ramapo, 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 in an American League girls’ volleyball match at Spring Valley.
