| | Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 Cross country Pearl River girls continue league-title streak, led by top three finishers Pirates win 32nd consecutive league title; Boys run away with the league crown BEAR MOUNTAIN -- Maria Kohlbrenner, Ceili McMorrow and Kerry Guerin finished first, second and third, respectively, yesterday, leading the Pearl River girls' cross country team to the League 4B championships at Bear Mountain State Park. Thomas Lappas of Pearl River won the boys' title as the Pirates also took the League 4B title. This is the 32nd consecutive league title for the girls. Along with its top three finishers, Pearl River also had Erica Guerin (fifth) and Molly Shine (10th) place in the top 10, with Katelyn Garvey finishing 11th. Pearl River had 21 points, followed by Tappan Zee (44 points) and Nanuet (63 points). Maria Kohlbrenner covered the 3.0-mile course in 18 minutes 44.4 seconds. McMorrow clocked in at 19:05.3 and Kerry Guerin ran a 19:25.3 Tappan Zee had four top-10 finishers, led by Caile Kohlbrenner, who was fourth, in a time of 19:30.7. Madison Goldrick, Kellyanne Bondulich and Meagan Jaskot were seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Katherine Aguiar was Nanuet's top finishers, placing seventh in a time of 19:32.8. Mary Kate O'Meara and Hannah DeMartino were 12th and 13th, respectively, for Nanuet. Lappas led five top-10 finishers for the Pirates. He was joined by Joe Clinton (third), Stephen McNiff (fifth), Kieran Brennan (sixth), Chris Kendrick (eighth) and Brian Edsall (ninth). Pearl River had 23 points with Tappan Zee second (50 points) and Nyack third (84 points). Tappan Zee's Joe Dinan was second to Lappas, running 16:21.78 and Nathan Kotch finished fourth, in a tim eof 16:40.19. Nanuet, which finished fourth (86 points), had Kyle Chesterman place seventh (17:00.99) and Andew Klock was 10th (17:18.54). Nyack's top runner was Julio Melendez, who was 16th (17:59.2). Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 Cross Country Lappas, Clinton are top-two finishers in Pearl River boys' victories Kotch, Dinan give Tappan Zee win PEARL RIVER -- Tommy Lappas and Joe Clinton were the first two finishers yesterday as Pearl River defeated Tappan Zee, 21-36, and Clarkstown North, 17-46, in a boys' cross country meet. Tappan Zee beat Clarkstown North, 21-36 behind Nathan Kotch and Joe Dinan. Lappas covered the 3.0-mile course in 16 minutes 48 seconds, followed by Clinton, who ran a 16:55. Teammate Kieran Brennan was fifth (17:05). Kotch finished third overall, in 16:58 and Dinan was three seconds behind him, 17:01, in fourth. Sean Ryan was Clarkstown North's top finisher, running a 17:07, placing him suxth. Taylor Joe Gillen (fourth) and Madison Goldrick (seventh) gave Tappan Zee a 15-48 win over Clarkstown North. McMorrow ran the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes 17.3 seconds to finish first. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010 Diving Suffern's Croce wins county diving title Four Suffern divers finish in top seven SUFFERN -- Abbey Croce amassed 391.45 points to win the Rockland County diving title yesterday at Suffern. Suffern placed four divers in the top seven. Brianna Alvarez (328.95 points) finished third, Stevie Meyerson (306.65 poins) was fourth and Nicole Vigliotti (213.20 poinhts) placed seventh. North Rockland’s Hannah Hillebrand was the runner-up with 361.1 points. Molly O’Hagan was Pearl River’s top finisher -- fifth -- with 289.55 points. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 Girls swimming Suffern remains undefeated with 99-85 win over Tappan Zee SUFFERN -- Katie Arnott won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle yesterday as Suffern defeated visiting Tappan Zee, 99-85 in a girls' swim meet. Suffern improved to 6-0 and claimed the county title with the win. Arnott prevailed in the 50 in a time of 25.98 seconds and took the 100 in a time of 55.55 seconds. She was also a member of the winning 200-medley relay team along with Brianna Southren, Jaime Stein and Kim Stein. Brittany Bailey and Ali McNamara were double winners for Tappan Zee. Record -- Suffern 4-0. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 Girls swimming Suffern takes final two events to overcome Clarkstown, 97-86 Lynch wins the breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay team prevails SUFFERN -- Amanda Lynch and Caitlin Leary took the top two spots, respectively, in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 400 freestyle-relay team secured the meet for Suffer, which beat visiting Clarkstown, 97-86 in a girls’ swimming meet. Prior to the late surge by Suffern, Clarkstown won the 100-backstroke, behind Hannah Dari, with Katie Chung finishing second. Clarkstown also won the previous event, the 200 free relay with a team of Brannan Carlucci, Hannah Dari, Stephanie Malyska, Rachel Kim. Katie Arnott was a double winner individually and with a relay for Suffern. She took the 200 IM and 500 free and was a member of the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay quartets. Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 Girls swimming Arnott leads Suffern to win over Pearl River SUFFERN -- Katie Arnott won the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and was members of two first-place relays yesterday as Suffern defeated Pearl River, 106-78. Arnott teamed with Sara Araujo, Jamie Stein and Ashley Kunow to win the 200 medley relay, in a time of 1 minute 59.65 seconds.
